Family law mediation is a non-adversarial procedure that helps families resolve disputes. While mediation is not a substitute for the services of an attorney, it is designed to allow parties to remain in control of the negotiating process and to make their own decisions. Mediation is a pro-family approach to resolving disputes because it balances the power struggles, gives parties final say in their own affairs, provides for informed choices, limits the negative byproducts of the adversarial process, spares otherwise unnecessary litigation, and saves parties money.
