In Small Claims Court, an individual or business can file a claim to collect a debt or settle a controversy valued at $5,000.00 or less. In Linn, Johnson, and Iowa Counties in Iowa’s Sixth Judicial District, and in other counties in the state, people involved in small claims cases have the opportunity to mediate their situation and reach their own agreement. Contact the Clerk of Court in your cunty for more information on small claims mediation in your county.
